Copy Data from Excel to D365 Finance and Operation without Excel Addins/DIXF
Hello Friends,
Welcome back to my new Blog. Here I will discuss the feature where you can copy the data from Excel to D365 F&O without any excel add-ins. Yes, you heard correctly without any Excel Add-in, OData, or Data management framework.
This is possible because of the new feature provided by Microsoft, "New Grid Control." Before this feature was introduced, Whenever users entered any line in the Grid, they had to wait until the system loaded all its related information in the line. So, for example, when you add a new line to the Inventory counting journal line, As soon as you select the Item number, all the related information gets loaded in the grid line like name, cost, price, etc. However, until all the corresponding data is loaded, users are not allowed to move to another/new line. This process was quite time-consuming.
With this feature, users can type ahead of the system and the user can
keep adding new lines without waiting for the system to load all related
information.
You can refer to Microsoft link for more information
This feature is available in all
the Grid within Dynamic 365 Finance and Operations. Kindly ensure that the "New Grid Control"
feature is enabled in D365 F&O.
Step 1:
In our example, let's navigate to Inventory Movement Journal
at Inventory Management à Journal Entries à Items à
Movement. Then, create a new Journal and go to Lines. Right-click on the Journal Lines
grid on the column header and select Export all rows.
Click on the Download button to save the excel file.
Step 2: Open the downloaded excel file and enter the
required data. Copy all the data that you have entered as highlighted below
screenshot.
Kindly note that I have kept the Product name column blank
because it is the display method and will automatically be populated based on the
Item Number.
Step 3: Go to the D365 F&O Journal line page. Keep the cursor
in the row where you need to enter this data. Below the screenshot, I have kept
it in the date column.
Step 4: Press Ctrl + V to paste the data you copied from
excel. Users will see a popup as shown below image. Click on the Save button to
save the changes.
Finally, the data will get copied to your Grid.
There are a few Important points to be noted before you use
this functionality.
·
The value provided by excel will override any
calculation logic written in the Grid.
·
Make changes in the position of columns in Grid before
exporting the data.
·
D365 F&O Grid content is overwritten by the
contents that are copied from the excel table, other than below two cases:
o
If the number of columns copied from the
excel table exceeds the number of columns that remain in the Grid, starting
from the paste location, the user will be notified that the extra columns have
been ignored.
o
Suppose the number of rows in the copied table
exceeds the number in the Grid, starting from the paste location. In that case,
the existing cells are overwritten by the pasted content, and any extra rows
from the copied table are inserted as new rows at the bottom of the Grid.
That's all for this Blog. See you all soon with the new Topic 😊
